Why you always feel behind (even when you’re getting things done)

If you’re always chasing something, even after a productive day, this one’s for you.

You planned the day, handled your work, replied to messages, crossed things off, and maybe even remembered to drink water.

Yet somehow, it still feels like you didn’t do enough.
Can you relate?

Let’s talk about it. Because this “always behind” feeling isn’t about productivity.
It’s about over-functioning, invisible labour, and comparison traps—and if you’re a woman balancing work, wellness, and a million tiny responsibilities, I already know this one’s hitting home.

1. The Trap of Over-Functioning

Over-functioning is when you constantly do more than your fair share, even when no one asks you to.
You anticipate needs. You pick up the slack. You overdeliver.
You become the glue. The planner. The fixer.

And on the outside? You look impressive.
But inside? You’re tired—and quietly resentful.

2. Invisible Labour = Silent Exhaustion

This is the stuff no one claps for: – Remembering birthdays
– Cleaning up after meetings
– Checking on others
– Prepping meals and work decks
– Always being the one to “just handle it”

It’s not in your job description. But it’s always on your mind.

And it’s why you’re drained even when you “haven’t done that much.”

3. Comparison is a Liar

You open your feed. Someone’s working out at 6 a.m., launching a business, and eating perfectly plated oats.

You? You’re on your third cup of Lipton and barely remembered to stretch.

But what you don’t see are the edits. The skipped meals. The breakdowns behind the scenes.

You’re not failing. You’re living real life. Let’s stop using someone’s polished highlight to measure our behind-the-scenes.

4. Redefining “Enough”

Here’s the truth:

  • If you showed up today, you did enough.
  • If you handled what you could, you did enough
  • If all you managed was surviving the day with some dignity intact, you did enough.

Because “enough” isn’t a list. It’s a feeling. And most of us have been conditioned to ignore it.

You don’t have to earn rest. You don’t have to prove your worth with output.

You’re allowed to feel proud, even on days you didn’t do it all.

Let’s Breathe, Together.

This week, I challenge you to pause at the end of the day and ask:
“Did I show up with what I had?”
If the answer is yes, then it’s enough. You are enough.

Share this with a woman who needs the reminder.

Read, breathe, reset.
With you,
Oly

Hi Reader, On Tuesday, I asked you a simple but powerful question: What’s one thing you’re doing for yourself this week? Maybe you said, “I’ll drink more water,” or “I’ll rest,” or “I’ll stop feeling guilty for doing less.” Or maybe life got loud, and you forgot to choose anything at all. That’s okay. This is a cue to pause and do something for you now that you still have time. Even if all you do is take 5 quiet minutes to breathe. Or stretch. Or sit in stillness without rushing to the next...

meme of a cat being catatonic

You know that feeling: You're sitting in front of your laptop. Your to-do list is breathing down your neck. You're not tired… But somehow, you can’t move. That’s not laziness. That’s catatonic fatigue, a silent, sneaky burnout symptom most people don’t talk about. That's not what catatonic means 😂 What does being catatonic mean? This stuck, frozen state can happen when your nervous system is overloaded and your brain quietly shuts down “non-essential” tasks like emails, dishes… even getting...

How to deal with stress eating

This week came with a load of stress 😩. From dealing with unsatisfied clients, creating content late into the night, to sending a debtor reminder to pay me for March work! I was STRESSED! Guess who slumped into stress eating? Me. I had that urge to munch on something even after eating enough food. I had to check myself immediately! Somebody say MINDFUL EATING If you've ever had that snack attack even when you just ate lunch, welcome to the club. That urge to chew something while doom-scrolling...
